Our client is seeking an experienced and energetic Catering Director. The position oversees the successful performance of all catering sales & operations on the campus of a high quality, independent liberal arts college in Northern California.
An eye for style, an ear for client needs, a seasonally inclined palate, smart business practices, flexibility and a positive team orientation will all be key attributes of the successful candidate. Proven performance with diverse events and clients is essential. Mostly on site customers and deliveries demand a personality that develops solid client relationships, and keeps the creative ideas flowing, while also being mindful of the bottom line. The requests range from the finest wedding receptions to the most casual lunches - each event fantastic, and delicious. Some support of the on-site cafes is also expected, so a restaurant background is also desired.
The right person is skilled at:
Leading a department that delivers exceptional service and food,
Sales and overall management of a $500K-$1M catering department and support of the overall $4M campus dining operation,
Communication with diverse audiences,
Maintaining the tools and training that support a top-notch team,
Helping clients design a menu and event set-ups that lead to a great experience,
Staff hiring, development and retention,
Monitoring and meeting budget, and
Effectively planning for the work flow, schedules and client communication to reliably deliver 5-10 events per day, and assisting in other areas as needed.
The hiring company prioritizes safety in the work environment and sustainability in their food purchasing, preparation and disposal. The Catering Director participates on the core management team, and coordinates with them to cover the needs of the full dining program. S/he must be highly organized and ready to take responsibility.
Must be fluent with MS Office programs, able to be on feet the majority of a day, and have a current Food Handlers permit and excellent references. Preference for current Serv-Safe certification and California residents.
