DescriptionPosition SummaryReporting to the Chief of Schools (CoS), the Deputy Chief of Schools (DCoS) is responsible for driving our regional priorities and maintains a laser-focus on continually increasing the number of students who experience joy and achieve academic excellence at our schools.
The DCoS will manage a team of School Leader Managers as well as a Director of Academics or Special Education.
In this leadership role, the DCoS will ensure all KIPP Northern California Schools are inclusive, community-focused, college-preparatory schools that empower students and parents.
The DCoS will support the implementation of our region-wide teaching and learning vision, and drive student academic growth.
Committed to disrupting racial and socio-economic inequities in educational access and outcomes, the DCoS will partner with the Chief Schools Officer to support students through college and to career.

Experience:
Deep experience in the design, integration, implementation and management of a K-12 school including knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, school operations and management, and leadership development.
Minimum 4 years School Leader/Principal experience in a K-12 setting.
Minimum 2 years managing School Leaders in a K-12 setting.
Demonstrated success leading school improvement initiatives that close student achievement gaps between racial, ethnic, and economic groups.
A track record of leading, motivating, and developing diverse and high performing teams.
Education:

Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesManage School Leader Managers Recruit, hire and develop regional School Leader Managers (SLMs) and manage their performance.
Hold SLMs accountable for development of School Leaders.
Regularly observe SLMs in action (e.
g.
provide coaching to School Leaders, lead data analysis, conduct regular 1:
1 meetings), and provide immediate feedback to develop their team members' competencies.
Set goals and expectations to ensure that the entire School Leader Manager team shares implementation of the joyful and academically excellent school vision for success of the region.
Collaborate with SLMs on hiring of school leadership and future school leadership.
Support SLMs in other challenges that arise in school management, e.
g.
school climate and culture, community engagement, parent involvement, etc.
Direct the implementation of our region-wide teaching and learning vision Manage either the Director of Special Education or Director of Academics, depending on candidate experience.
Oversee the plan to achieve our instructional vision including metrics, indicators, and key initiatives that align to the broader strategic plan.
Oversee program design, implementation, and achievement of all specialized learning groups, including students with IEPs, emergent bilingual and multilingual students.
Use data to effectively drive instructional practice and, in collaboration with the Chief Schools Officer, improve and adjust academic strategy and program.
Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of the promising practices and innovations in programs and policies for teaching, learning, and school design that are emerging locally and nationwide.
Create proactive systems that garner feedback from stakeholders (CoS, regional leaders, school leaders, staff, community partners) to inform school support and school improvement strategy and practice.
In collaboration with the Chief of Schools, develop long-term (3-5 years) and annual goals and priorities Identify data sources, aligned with regional goals, for each stakeholder group to track and monitor on a regular basis.
Regularly review a variety of regional student performance data and teacher practice data to make immediate adjustments to implementation approach.
Use data in regional leadership team meetings and during check-ins with School Leader Managers team to quickly identify and address concerns.
Schedule and conduct a data stepback quarterly to make changes and adjust priorities if necessary.
Support implementation of teaching and learning vision at all schools.
Communicate teaching and learning vision to School and Regional Leaders.
Hold School Leader Managers and School Leaders accountable for implementation Operationalize teaching and learning vision by using implementation plans, specifying areas of ownership and a timeline for each priority and collaborate with School Leader Managers and School Leaders to make sure that schools have an appropriate corresponding implementation plan.
Regularly co-observe with School Leader Managers and School Leaders to progress monitor implementation of teaching and learning vision and regional priorities.
Alignment and Integration of Educational Equity with TK-12 Teaching and Learning Programs Design and lead our regional approach to joyful, academically excellent teaching and learning by establishing smart systems and structures to intentionally integrate school culture, academics, and support to specialized student groups to drive towards educational equity.
Work closely with Chief Schools Officer to identify high-leverage annual priorities, set goals that are grounded in our DEI vision, mission and vision, and strategic plan.
Foster collaboration between the Lead Learning Team (Teaching & Learning and School Leader Manager teams) to drive the execution of our regional priorities.
Make resource allocation decisions with the Chief Schools Officer that are aligned with our strategic plan, and annual priorities.
Provide the vision for and execution of professional development in the summer and throughout the school year for teachers and appropriate staff.
Lead the design and execution of monthly Communities of Practice for School Leaders and Assistant Principals.
Strengthen and regionalize teaching and learning systems for ensuring multi-tiered systems of support to students which include the following systems:
Student Success Team (SST), CARE team 504 Plan Response To Intervention Restorative Practices Mental health counseling Personalized learning Data-driven instruction Training and coaching for staff and leaders in building developmental relationships, restorative practices, and strong start routines and systems Physical, Mental and Environmental DemandsPhysical:

ClassificationThis is a full-time, exempt position based on a full year calendar cycle and time off, located in our Regional Support Office with frequent travel to schools and districts.
The KIPP Regional Support Office is currently operating in a hybrid fashion.
Most positions can expect to work in person 2-3 days per week and remotely the remaining days, subject to change based on the needs of the role.

CompensationKIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits.
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries.
The salary range for this position is between $194,000 and $216,000.
Most candidates would be compensated at $203,000.
